Narrating Complexity in 3D

I started off by using symbolic forms made of plastics to focus on contemporary problems, e.g. refugees. Often war-torn, they travel with hope and in desperation, to meet a rubbish welcome. So often though, they struggle on and rise above these barriers. Much of my early installation 3D work is designed to capture these multiple elements and to celebrate this human endeavour. I am also interested in other ecology besides human ecology but the irony is I need the beach rubbish to make my global traveller points. (e.g.  the video of an installation 1001 Questions to Ask When Collecting Rubbish from the Beach). I also use other materials of steel and cardboard and am at present working on a range of papier maché masks for dramatic purposes.

The videos (3,4,5 &6), below were made during the Covid years, inspired by an online course led by Ben Swift at Morley: A Little Bird Told Me … using domestic aluminium foil, also Monocular Mirror … The Age of Fantasy is Reality: a self-portrait used old images and new text and Searching, was seeking something I couldn’t quite lay my hands on, using plenty of pebbles on the beach at Seaford. An unknown busker, singing for pleasure not money, was sitting on the wall and he provides the background music. I am very sorry I did not get his name at the time.
